History of KATE
The Karunya emblem has an image of dove with both wings stretched and two twigs each having nine leaves indicating the nine fruit of the Holy Spirit and nine gifts of the Holy Spirit that is essential for the spiritual formation and mission. The symbol of the open Bible placed at the bottom, depicts it as the foundation for our theological faith. The graduation hood at the top stands for preparing the servant leaders and raising Apostles and Prophets for the mission with scholastic achievement. It has the motto ‘mission with compassion’ – the KATE’s message to the people of God.
To sum up, the KATE’s emblem reflects the core belief that the great commission should be carried out with compassion, rooted in the knowledge of the Word of God and delivered by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Humble Beginning
In 1962, late Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran, at the age of 27, had a vision of Christ for nearly three hours. In that vision He said “My son Dhinakaran, I’m transforming your heart to overflow with my love and compassion. When people communicate their burdens to you, you will be moved with compassion and will begin to cry. I Jesus, will then come, see your tears and wipe away their tears.” This has been the mission of Jesus Calls, since 1962 with a mission to bring healing to the heartbroken people. Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran, has been preaching about God’s love in the streets, public stadiums and fields which has endeavored to touch millions. That mission continues as we continue to minister so even today being where the broken hearted are.
Jesus Calls
The Lord enlarged the territory of Jesus Calls ministry to establish more than 100 Prayer Towers across India, to conduct 1000s of public prayer festivals across India attended by even 500,000 people in one meeting, to telecast about 400 television programs each month in 12 languages along with operating a 24 hours TV Channel. It also operates a 24 hours phone prayer service receiving nearly half million prayer requests each month. Apart from that a National Prayer Tower functions in New Delhi standing opposite to the Parliament of India to pray 24X7 for the nation. In accordance with God's revelation that there should be a Prayer Tower in Israel where prayers should be offered for the nations to prepare the people for Christ's second coming, the Israel Prayer Tower was established on the 4th November 2013. The uniqueness of the ministry has been,
- To minister to the millions of the broken-hearted people across the nation without distinction of faith, denomination, language or social levels,
- To work unitedly with all denominations, Churches, Institutions and social organisations supporting them as well as including them in all outreaches,
- To have raised thousands and thousands of prayer intercessors and God servants both full time as well as from the secular realm to serve the people by training them through certificate programmes, through informal practical means and placing them in the hundreds of the outreaches of Jesus Calls nationwide.
- To care for thousands of poor, needy, shelter less, and forsaken persons including children, women and transgenders from all back grounds through its sister organisation.
Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences
In the year 1986, after a divine visitation and command to build a University to raise leaders who would find solutions to human problems, the Karunya Institute of Technology, was established by its founders Late Dr. D. G. S. Dhinakaran and the present Chancellor Dr. Paul Dhinakaran. From a humble beginning of 180 students, the institution which is accredited by NAAC and approved by the MHRD (Govt of India) has grown into a University with high research credentials with more than 8491 students and 452 faculty representing 18 academic departments and five schools. (Computer Science & Technology, Engineering & Technology, Science, Arts & Media, Agricultural Sciences, Management)
The New Divine Plan Revealed
Dr. Paul Dhinakaran, son of Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran, Chancellor of Karunya University on the 14th of March 2008, received a divine mandate to work to prepare the world for the coming of the Lord, experiencing the promise of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit given in Acts 2:17 and to raise sons and daughters who would prophesy the testimony of Jesus (Rev. 8:10). These sons and daughters would be today’s Mary Magdalene and Samaritan woman of the Bible. The promise was to send His Apostolic and Prophetic anointing upon all who thirst to reveal Jesus to the world. They would prophesy and pray God’s plan for the nations, peoples, kings and languages (servants of God) (Rev 10:7, 11). Then God will fulfil those prophecies on earth as promised in Revelation 5:8, 8:3-5 & Haggai 2:6-10.
Hence, the need to share this good news about witnessing with miracles through the power of the Holy Spirit and to train the people of God to receive the power of the Holy Spirit to prophecy testimony of Jesus and establish the Kingdom of God overcoming the demonic kingdom through the blood and the testimony of the Lord Jesus according to Rev. 19: 10 and 12: 10, 11. As a result, from the year 2016 the Karunya School of Christian Studies from the Karunya Educational and Research Trust and the Prayer Academy from the Jesus Calls Ministry jointly ran short and long-term certificate programmes.
These certificate programs were offered in three streams namely, concise course for 3 days, 3 weeks course and 6 months course from 2016 to 2019. In all these streams 1,333 persons participated and were equipped in prayer and prophetic ministry. The full time and part time faculty members from both Karunya School of Christian Studies and Prayer Academy from Jesus Calls were involved in these training programmes and the certificates were also issued jointly.
Formation of KATE
The Board of trustees of the Karunya Education and Research Trust (KERT) then felt the need to have a full-time independent institution under KERT to provide in depth biblical and theological degree programs to equip persons to serve the people at large. Thus, all the programmes which were offered as a joint venture from Karunya School of Christian studies and Jesus Calls Prayer Academy has been decided to be offered in the name of KATE henceforth. It has been decided by the board of Trustees of KERT to also pursue a membership and subsequently an accreditation with ATA and to offer residential programmes, online programmes and ODL programmes. With the mission of raising apostles and prophets, KATE was inaugurated by Dr. Paul Dhinakaran on 4th September 2020.
The programs offered by the KATE contains all key aspects of theology, biblical truths, training with case studies relating to serving people who are in need spiritually and affected physically, financially, in the family, in their educational career, in social areas of life, in their profession etc. Also, each student would be trained to acquire communication skills, technical skills, interpersonal skills, social skills, administrative skills, pertinent statutory compliance requirements while running an Organization. Henceforth, all those who has a zeal to serve the humanity ought to be trained biblically and contextually through the Holy Spirit.
